The Giant Blanket Scarf is a straight forward garter stitch scarf with a colour block at either end. Knit flat on 12mm needles, this is a super satisfying and surprisingly-quick-to-knit-when-you-factor-in-the-size project.

It’s an easy knit to watch grow over a few evenings on the sofa. The big needles mean progress is quick, and the simple pattern means you can start to sink into the rhythm of the stitches and allow your mind to relax and slow right down.

The ever-so-slightly loose stitches create the squishiest, cosiest, dreamiest winter knit that your winter wardrobe is calling out for.

SIZE:
The Giant Blanket Scarf comes in a standard size of 12in (30cm) wide and 84in (213cm) long
however, there is the option to create an extra long version which is long enough to wrap around twice which measures approximately 100in (254cm) long

GAUGE:
8 sts x 14 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4“ on 12mm (US 17) needles knit flat in knit stitch

YARN:
You can use any super chunky yarn you wish to knit up this pattern provided you can meet the gauge. The samples in the photos are worked using King Cole Big Value Super Chunky (1 ball = 82m (90yd))

The pattern requires 2 colours of yarn; Colour A is the main colour for the body of the scarf and Colour B is the accent colour at either end.

Approximate yardage for each size is as follows:
Standard size: Colour A - 246m (270yd); Colour B - 164m (180yd)
Extra long: Colour A - 328m (359yd); Colour B - 164m (180yd)

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS:

  • 12mm (US size 17) knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle to weave in the ends
