This is an extremely quick and easy way to achieve either a really striking pair of 2 colour mitts or a subtle but noticeable of single colour version, and you will only ever be knitting with one colour at a time and slipping stitches, along with the odd purl row. The pattern gives instructions for 2 sizes and whilst I chose to make a longer ‘wrist warmer’ length version for my sample you can also make a shorter version by skipping some of the pattern repeat as indicated in the instructions.

Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, knitting, purling & slipping stitches purlwise. Small circumference knitting

Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied a buffer in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room. Also, it is in view of making the mitts
as the pattern states (which is also what the numbers in the Finished measurements section are dictated by), if you choose to add extra repeats of any kind- circumference or length- this would obviously affect the amounts of the required yarn: Sizes S (L)
Requires approx. 175 (196) yards / 160 (179) metres DK weight yarn
(This is the combined amount of both yarns required to make the two-colour version, so also what’s needed for a single colour version)
For the Sample I used: Socks Yeah! DK – Coop Knits Yarns, 50g, 122 yards
(112 meters) But any wool based DK yarn of choice should work fine.
Yarn MC: Pigeon, (Brownish-Grey) (amount used 77 (86) meters / 84 (94) yards)
Yarn CC: Prunus, (Shell Pink) (amount used 83 (93) metres / 91 (102) yards)

Needles: 4mm / US 6 throughout the pattern, either on 9” circular needle, 16” or longer cord length circular needle for magic loop method or spread over DPN’s for small circumference knitting

Notions: 2 markers, & a unique BOR marker. Tape measure & tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave ends.

Gauge: 4” (10 cm) on 4 mm/US 6 needles (after blocking)- 24 sts & 44 rounds which translates to
1 & 1/2 repeats of the 16 stitch Pattern Repeat below & 2 & 3/4 of the 16 rounds of the following Pattern Repeat. The 16 rounds below are to be used to measure gauge:
Round 1: (Using MC): K all sts
Round 2: (Using MC): P all sts
Rounds 3 - 8: (Using CC):SL1, K6, SL2 x4 (x5), K6, SL1, to BOR
Round 9: (Using MC): K all sts
Round 10: (Using MC): P all sts
Rounds 11 - 16: (Using CC): K3, SL2, K6 x4 (x5), SL2, K3, to BOR
(I would suggest casting on at least 2 of the 16 stitch repeats and working at least 2 of the 16 rounds - 2 repeats therefore, divided by a marker, working through rounds 1-16 x2 – for ease of measurement of the whole repeat). Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.

Finished measurements & relating notes: These are adjustable as explained below.
Instructions are given for 2 sizes S (L) – S gives approximately 7” circumference whilst the L is for
approximately 8” circumference. As already stated in the introduction I chose to make a sample pair with a length (9.5” from wrist cuff to fingers cuff) that could be considered maybe longer than the standard mitt length, but this can be adjusted by skipping some repeats of the pattern before the thumb gusset commences (there is a reminder of this at that point in the Instructions’).
Circumference: 7” (8”), 18cm (20cm)
Length: 9.5” / 24cm (from cast on/bind off edge so including the ribbing)
