Set in 1926 in New York City, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a jazz-era delight rife with elaborate period detail. “New York in 1926 is an extraordinary place,” says director David Yates. “It’s got an ecosystem of its own … It’s a world of people who have dreams and aspirations. It’s like a champagne bottle being shaken up: it’s fizzy and it’s crazy and it’s alive and electric.” In one memorable scene in this visually stunning film, Tina and Queenie Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski, and Newt Scamander head to The Blind Pig, a seedy speakeasy owned by the goblin gangster Gnarlak. The wizarding version of this fixture of 1920s nightlife is fairly similar to the real-world version, with a few notable differences: the jazz singer is a goblin, the entrance is hidden behind a charmed advertisement, and there’s a house-elf behind the bar serving a delightful-sounding beverage called Gigglewater.

The perfect accessory for at night at The Blind Pig, this beaded rectangular lace shawl takes its inspiration from 1920s fashion. Worked in two identical pieces, it starts with the lace borders and continues up toward the center (CHART ONLY). After both pieces are knit, they are joined together at the center seamlessly with Kitchener stitch. Beads that mimic the sparkling bubbles in Gigglewater are worked only on the right-side rows with a small crochet hook, and all wrong-side rows are resting purl rows. Approx. 2,000 6/0 4 mm seed beads (silver-lined gold AB, optional).
