Named after the beautiful Gila National Forest, this hat pattern uses a folded brim and bamboo stitch, creating a substantial but slightly open fabric that is quick, easy, and fun to knit. The finished circumference is roughly 26 inches with good negative ease that makes it comfortable for many different sizes of heads.

Gauge:17 stitches 28 rows = 4”/10 cm on brim, 18 stitches 24 rows = 4”/10cm on main fabric with lager needles

Yarn: Worsted weight- 140 yards or about 70 grams in one color. Wool is recommended. Sample is knit in Cascade 220 and used less than one skein.
Suggested needles: US 6 for brim, US 7 for main fabric, circular or double pointed needles. If you’d like the bamboo stitch to be closer, use the size 6 needles for the entire hat.
Notions: 4 stitch markers, tapestry needle, smooth contrasting scrap yarn and size H-8 crochet hook for provisional cast on
