Gilly Pinny Dress
I am SO excited to bring you a SUPER cool crochet dungaree dress pattern–The Gilly Pinny! A year after releasing my Romping Willow Overalls and Lily Romper, I decided it was time to design a pair of overalls with a skirt instead of shorts. Did you know there is a name for this particular article of clothing? It’s called a Pinafore! I’d heard the term before but never really knew what it was until I started putting this design together. I’m glad I did the research because it helped me decide on the name–The Gilly Mini Pinny–as “pinny” is a well know nickname/slang term for a pinafore!
This is my first made-to-measure style pattern, and I know that for some, the idea of a made to measure pattern can be daunting, so let’s call it “choose your own adventure” instead! I have done my very best to break this pattern down to make it as simple as possible so that even a beginner can follow along and make their own Gilly Pinny!!!!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
• Super Bulky (6 weight) Yarn: I used Premier Cotton XL & Hoooked Zpagetti T-shirt Yarn for my 2 samples. Premier Cotton XL is considered a jumbo (7 weight) yarn while the T-shirt yarn is considered a super bulky (6 weight) yarn, both of these yarns measured to about 3-4 Wraps Per Inch.
• Yardage Estimate Based on Hip Measurement: 350 (30”-33”), 400 (34”-37”),
450 (37”-40”), 500 (41”-44”), 550 (45”-48”), 600 (49”-52”), 650 (53”-56”), 700 (57”-60”), 750 (60”-63”) - Yardage will vary depending on your personal measurements, how long you make the dress and any modifications you make so if in doubt, buy an extra skein of yarn! :)
• Size 15mm (P/Q) & 16mm (Q) Crochet Hooks, Tapestry Needle & Scissors
Gauge (4”x4”) = 5-5.5 SC sts x 6 SC rows
