Classically stranded mittens pattern with a Latvian braid and a simple ribbing. The
pattern is regular and easy to remember. In some places long floats are inevitable,
and it is recommended that you weave in your yarn every 3rd stitch as you go.
I would like to note that there is a separate pattern on the right and left mitten, so
the houses are mirrored and together the backs of the hands form a small cluster
of houses .
These mittens are a tribute to the Icelanders who moved to the West before the
turn of the century and had to learn new farming methods and live in completely
different weather conditions than they were used to.
Thorough explanations as well as links to technical videos are included in the
knitting techniques chapter.
