I have fallen in love with the fake linen stitch, its simplicity and versatility. So when I heard my old friend Sol was pregnant, that’s where my mind went.

This sweater is knitted seamlessly from the top down, with some short row shaping for the neck, and raglan sleeves.

And the name needs some explanation. I asked a friend to ask her five year old son Wesley, who is known to be a very funny little guy. He said Gimroid. So Gimroid it is. No meaning, just a name.

Since sizing is always confusing and kids come in all shapes and sizes, I base the sizes on the width of the finished sweater just under the armpits. Length of body and sleeves is up to you. If you have a different gauge, you can easily calculate your own sizes using the numbers in the table at the end of the pattern.

1 – 103 st, 46 cm
2 – 113 st, 50 cm
3 – 123 st, 54 cm
4 – 133 st, 58 cm
5 – 143 st, 62 cm
6 – 153 st, 66 cm
7 – 163 st, 70 cm
8 – 173 st, 74 cm

And this is a European style pattern, and maybe not suited for absolute beginners. You need to be able to work from basic instructions and do a bit of independent thinking. That said, it’s not difficult, and I always do my best to help if needed.

Required skills include short rows, m1, buttonholes, picking up stitches, and temporary cast on.
