Although I make a great number of them, I am not really a stocking cap sort of girl. I wanted to make a crocheted hat that I would actually wear, and as most of my clothing has a vintage look to it… I gravitated to the cloche. Cloche hats were especially popular in the 1920’s, and this style is named for Ginevra King. One of the Big Four debutantes in the Chicago social scene in the 1920s, she was muse to F. Scott Fitzgerald and became the inspiration for The Great Gatsby character Daisy Buchanan.

Also…and this is the very best thing about this hat….everyone who tries it on looks fantastic in it. This is the type of hat that compels complete strangers to utter praise and compliments. I am working on a knit version, and two other crochet cloches, watch for new patterns soon!
