Gingerbread House
Knit up a Gingerbread House for a festive treat. This pattern incorporates a two-colour trellis stitch to make the roof tiles. This is a squidgy house, but you can make a more structured version by cutting cardboard or plastic mesh pieces the same size as the knitted house pieces, and place these inside when you sew together.
Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the house is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round), and some of the decorative elements are i-cord which is worked on two DPNs.
NEEDLES
A pair each of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles and DPNs (US 4).
RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/280m skein in each colour
NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, buttons and ribbon bow for decorations.
SIZES
One size only - 14cm wide x 17cm tall x 14cm deep.
TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, a little embroidery to decorate, and seaming to finish.
