Gingerbread House socks
The perfect project to show your personality and holiday spirit. These gingerbread house socks can be knit up “plain” in just the cookie and icing colours, or embellished to your heart’s content with little scraps of candy-coloured yarn.
These can be knit to fit any adult size in fingering, sport, or DK weight yarn. Yardage required: 250 - 450 yards depending on yarn, gauge, and size.
Measurements and gauges are included for a variety of yarn weights, needle sizes, and stitch counts. I have included 4 stitch counts at 4 different gauges to make it as easy as possible for you to get the exact fit you need.
GAUGE
1) 38 sts x 40 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US1.5 (2.5 mm) needles (suitable for fingering weight).
2) 35 sts x 37 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US2 (2.75 mm) needles (suitable for fingering weight).
3) 28 sts x 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US2.5 (3 mm) needles (suitable for sport weight).
4) 22 sts x 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in colourwork on US4 (3.5 mm) needles (suitable for DK weight).
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Circumference: 6.25” (15.5 cm) - 15.25” (38 cm), customizable with yarn choice and chart choice.
The pattern is written as a cuff-down sock, with options for both a short-row heel and a forethought heel (just like an afterthought heel, but with waste yarn in place so you don’t have to cut into your sock). It can be knit toe-up by reading the chart upside-down if you know how to do a toe-up toe.
Yardage: depends on yarn weight. 280 - 450 yards
Fingering: A 50g skein of each colour will suffice for up to size 8, or maybe 9. Probably up to about an 11 (women’s) or more if you use contrasting heels, toes, and cuffs.
DK: A 100g skein of each colour will do up to a men’s 11 or so, and you can stretch it by adding contrasting heels, toes, cuffs.
Embellishments: Most areas just need a yard or 2 of candy-coloured yarn at a time. Duplicate stitch, embroidery, or beads can be added for the candy.
There are full page charts for each size, as well as 2 additional pages for embellishing. Please only print the pages you need.
NOTE: some of the sizes may need re-arranging of the stitches before you start the toe. Depending on what needles you are using, shuffle the toe stitches around so that the toe is centered to the front and back house design, with your decreases lined up with the sides.
