I’ve always been a fan of gingerbread houses, ever since I was a little girl really. The thought that a house could be made of a cookie, decorated with candy and icing and then EATEN was just too much for me. As an adult I could appreciate that some of these houses are works of art!

A few years ago I thought, “Why not knit myself a gingerbread house”? I can’t eat it but I can fill it with candy! I kept the idea for a few years but life got in the way. This year I have my Gingerbread House! The “grinch” is in the details with this stocking. You may or may not want to “frost “it as I have and add “gumdrops”. However you choose to make it yours will be a delight I am sure.

The stocking is knit top-down from cuff to toe using circular needles. It has a knit-purl house pattern, a striped foot and a star toe! The embroidery gives it an enchanted, whimsical look!

Errata: It seems in all my excitement I left out the number of rounds for the striping in the foot of the sock. Please add this info to your pattern and my apologies!

Gingerbread House Pattern for foot of sock

I decided to knit a striped foot for this stocking. I alternated colors B and C every 8 rounds starting with color C until I had 3 stripes of color B.
Hint: To keep the stripes on the bottom of the stocking “perfecto” I changed colors at Marker 1, not the beginning of the round.
