Gingham Hat
This hat matches my double knit gingham scarf, but it’s a fair bit more complicated. Double knitting in the round does mean that you don’t have to worry about flipping colors in your head or changing direction, but the decreases are a little tricky, and knitting the closing square and grafting the final stitches are a little fussy. If you’ve worked a few of the projects in this book already, you should be prepared.
You will need a 16-inch circular US 6 (4 mm) needle (or whatever size you need to get gauge) and matching double-pointed needles. Normally I recommend magic loop for the top of a hat, but in this case I find DPNs to be less awkward. You’ll also need a tapestry needle, and stitch markers make it easier to keep track of where you are. For the yarn I used Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk DK (127 yards, 50 g each) in two contrasting colors, but any DK weight yarn should be fine. Your gauge should be around 9 stitches per inch (measuring 4.5 visible stitches in double knitting).
Pattern available in my e-book.
