Gingham Squares Filet Crochet Blanket
A beginner-friendly crochet blanket pattern with instructions to make in any size! The post includes a chart with a table of starting chains based on the desired size and provided gauge.
This pattern only uses chains and double crochets and works up with an included border.
The trickiest part of this pattern is the first filet row which sets up the pattern for the rest of the blanket. Once you get past that row, you’re either “copying” the row below or switching to make the open squares between the previous squares.
I worked the example in stripes, but the pattern will still show with a single color and in any yarn.
Materials needed:
- Yarn of your choice - see notes below on yarn choice and amount, this can be a great stash buster!
- In the example shown, I used Caron Simply Soft, 1 skein each of pagoda, pistachio, autumn maize, persimmon, and pumpkin (total approximately 1575 yds / 1440 m)
- 4.50mm crochet hook OR whatever size is needed to meet the gauge OR whatever size is appropriate for the yarn you’ve selected
- Tapestry needle
- Snips
