The Ginkgo Biloba Hat is a sister design of the Ginkgo Biloba Mitts. Like the mitts, it is inspired by the unique leaf shape of the ginkgo tree (Ginkgo biloba). The folded brim features a rib pattern that is reminiscent of the bifurcated leaf.
Starting with a provisional cast-on, the brim is knitted first by working the varied and engaging “ginkgo leaf ribbing” (a variation on the heart rib stitch). A tubular bind-off adds a neat finishing touch. After that, thanks to the provisional cast-on, you begin to knit in the opposite direction and have a relaxing portion of stocking stitch ahead of you. At the end, simple decreases create a spiralling crown.
The folded brim keeps the ears extra cozy during the cold season. Its nature-inspired pattern wants to make you dream of the fresh green leaves of spring while they are still resting in their buds, preparing to flourish.

Option 1: fingering / light fingering weight wool held double
Option 2: DK weight wool

Yardage:
Option 1: approx. (300; 340; 380; 460) m / (330; 370; 420; 500) yds of fingering weight yarn
Option 2: approx. half the yardage mentioned above of DK weight yarn

Gauge:
19 stitches x 31 rounds = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 ‘’ on 3.5 mm (US 4) needles in stocking stitch, knitted in the round, measured after washing and blocking

Needles and notions:
- 3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle, 40 cm / 16‘‘ long (The whole hat is knitted with one needle size, but in case you are a rather loose knitter, you might want to go down a needle size for the ribbing.)
3.5 mm (US 4) DPNs

• 6 stitch markers, one of them different (= beginning of round marker)
• piece of scrap yarn (with smooth surface, e.g. cotton) for provisional cast-on
• tapestry needle to weave in ends
• optional: crochet hook of approx. same size as knitting needles for provisional cast-on (It is also possible to work the provisional cast-on without a crochet hook if you prefer.)

Der Ginkgo Biloba Hat ist ein Schwester-Design der Ginkgo Biloba Mitts. Genauso wie die Handstulpen ist auch er durch die charakteristische Blattform des Ginkgo-Baums (Ginkgo Biloba) inspiriert. Das Umschlagbündchen ist in einem Rippenmuster gestaltet, das an die zweigliedrige Blattform erinnert.
Beginnend mit einem provisorischen Maschenanschlag, wird zuerst das Umschlag-bündchen im abwechslungsreichen „Ginkgoblatt-Rippenmuster“ gearbeitet (eine Variation des Herz-Rippenmusters). Für den letzten Schliff wird das Bündchen italienisch abgekettet. Dank des provisorischen Maschenanschlags kannst du nun in die entgegengesetzte Richtung weiterstricken und hast einen entspannten Abschnitt im Glatt-rechts-Muster vor dir. Zum Abschluss bilden einfache Abnahmen eine angedeutete Spiralform auf der Oberseite der Mütze.
Das Umschlagbündchen hält deine Ohren mollig warm, wenn es draußen kühl ist. Gleichzeitig möchte sein Blattmuster auch in der kalten Jahreszeit, wenn alle Blätter noch in ihren Knospen ruhen, die Vorfreude auf das frische Grün des nahenden Frühjahrs wecken.

Maschenprobe:
19 Maschen x 31 Reihen = 10 x 10 cm, auf 3,5-mm-Nadeln glatt rechts in der Runde gestrickt, gemessen nach dem Waschen und Spannen

Nadeln und weitere Materialien:

• Rundstricknadel in Stärke 3,5 mm, Seillänge 40 cm (Laut Anleitung wird für die ganze Mütze ein und dieselbe Nadelstärke verwendet. Falls du aber sehr locker strickst, kannst du für das Bündchen eine kleinere Nadelstärke verwenden.)
• Nadelspiel in Stärke 3,5 mm (oder der Stärke, die du benötigst, um die Maschenprobe zu erreichen)
• 6 Maschenmarkierer, einer davon als Rundenmarkierer (der sich am besten optisch von den anderen unterscheidet)
• Stück Restgarn (mit möglichst glatter Oberfläche, ideal ist Baumwolle) für provisorischen Maschenanschlag
• Wollnadel zum Vernähen der Fäden
• optional: Häkelnadel in ungefähr der gleichen Nadelstärke, für provisorischen Maschenanschlag (Du kannst den provisorischen Maschenanschlag auch ohne Häkelnadel arbeiten, wenn du diese Methode bevorzugst.)
