Ginkgo trees are one of the oldest trees in the world and turn the most brilliant shade of gold as cooler weather comes in late autumn. There is a side street nearby my apartment lined with ginkgo trees, and every year both the trees and sidewalks (and cars) are lined with their little leaves like the ones on these socks. But careful – the female trees produce a very smelly fruit that can get stuck for days in the grooves of boots and shoes. Luckily, with regular washing, these ginkgo socks will not be so smelly!

TECHNIQUES
The Gingko Garden socks are knit top-down with a two colorwork charts and a heel flap and gusset.

MATERIALS
Yarn: 2 colors of Knit Picks Stroll fingering weight yarn, or similar. Exact yarn usage for socks will depend on size, height of leg, and length of foot.
MC (Burnt Umber Heather): 50-100g
CC (Poppy Field Tonal): 25-50g
Needles: Size 1 and 1.5 needles (optional), or needle size required to achieve sock fit preference. Needle style may be double pointed needles, 24” circular needle, or 9” circular needle, as preferred.
Additional Materials: Tapestry needle, stitch markers (3), scissors

SIZING
The sock pattern is written for 4 sizes: XS, S (M, L). The socks are designed to fit approximate foot circumference 7, 8 (9, 10) inches. XS is roughly equal to child size, L is roughly equal to men’s large size. Actual sizing can vary based on gauge, needle size, and sock fit preference. Please ensure that your chosen size matches with your knitting style materials, and preferred fit.
