Ginsburg Legacy Collar

A tribute to our beloved RBG.
This free pattern was created by contemporary artist Kristen Stein in honor of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) who served as a Supreme Court Justice from 1993 until her death on September 18, 2020. Please wear it in remembrance of this incredible woman who lived an incredible life. The collar is easy to replicate using basic stitches. It can easily be created in different sizes as desired. The pattern is suitable for a beginner crocheter with basic crochet skills.

Designer note:
Another Ravelry member asked me if this can be worked with a button closure.
My reply is : “Yes. Of course! You can replicate it the same way, but don’t create the ring in round one. Simply create your foundation chain with the number of Chain stitches needed to comfortably fit around the neck and work the remaining 10 “rounds“ as “rows” in order to create a rectangle rather than a circle. You can then attach a button or use a hook and eye closure across the width of the lace collar in order to attach it around the neck.
I chose to do a complete ring because I felt like it embodied RBG’s full life and a sense of completeness. I knew that people might like to display it rather than wear it and the design is so pretty all as one piece.
But, in order to fit many different people, it might be easier to work as a rectangle with buttons, hook & eyes or ties as closures. So, you can definitely adapt it to a rectangle wrap collar rather than a circle. “
