Giraffe with Calf
With this design, the adult giraffe’s body has an internal pocket which opens to reveal the calf inside!
This pattern includes the instructions for both the giraffe and her calf. The pattern contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way and is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns are independently tested by several people before being released.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Stylecraft Special Aran weight yarn (this is equivalent to worsted weight) and my finished giraffe measures approximately 30cm tall and 27cm long.
You will need to choose colours for the following sections:
Main Body Colour - I used shade ‘camel’ (approx. 178m),
Feet & Mane - I used shade ‘dark brown’ (approx. 11.5m).
Face & Patches - I used shade ‘copper’ (approx. 37m).
Please note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide.
You will also need:
A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 3.5mm hook.
Toy stuffing.
Finer black yarn or embroidery thread for adding the facial details.
A pair of 9mm black eyes.
2 press studs (also called snap fasteners) for fastening the giraffe’s body. I used 7mm clear plastic ones. These are optional and can be missed out if preferred.
Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker. You will also need a needle and thread for attaching the fasteners if you are using them.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Feel free to contact me with any questions as I am more than happy to help. Thank you.
