GIRLANG
Girlang (the Swedish word for garland) is a crescent shawl that will wrap around your shoulders and keep you warm like a soft hug. With a beautiful rainbow or gradient yarn with fairly frequent colour changes, your leaves will shift their shade along the vine and transform the appearance of the shawl - almost like when leaves transition with the seasons. The entire shawl is knit in garter stitch, which makes it a project that anyone can execute.
The shawl starts with a prolongued garter tab and then increases quickly on every row. The solid coloured part is perfect for tv or beach knitting when you don’t want to think too much, while the garland works like a beautiful reward once the white is finished. If you don’t want to wait as long to get to the colour part, you can make another garland or vine before the main one - a sample photo is on the last page of the pattern.
Girlang is written for a locally produced Swedish yarn from the mini-mill Östergötlands ullspinneri. The yarns Visjö and Karamell are spun with wool from finewool sheep, a native heritage breed that has a very soft and crimpy wool resulting in a fabric that can be worn next to the skin. The colourway Karamell is a gorgeous gradient yarn that goes through the colours about three times per skein. It can be ordered from http://www.ullspinneriet.se.
Size: Approximately 200 cm wide x 48 cm high after blocking.
Yarn: Östergötlands ullspinneri, 2 skeins (200g) Visjö white,
1/2-1 skein (100g) Ljus karamell, 300m (328yds)/100g.
