This shawl is a fun and easy project to knit! All you need is … patience! :-) It can be knitted without chart, once you get the hang of it.

The finished size is about 48 x 200 cm/19 x 79 inches but can easily be adjusted. Adjustments are given in the pattern. Use your favourite lace yarn and give it your personal touch.

While working on this shawl, I was watching a documentary on Vivienne Westwood. One of her employees was waving a piece of gray chiffon-like fabric through the air. Vivienne’s husband, admiring the way the fabric floated through the air and curled downwards again, said: “Oh … it’s like nicotine.”

This scene inspired me to name my shawl Gitanes. Of course because of the color, but also because of the airiness and the big cables that make the fabric curl.
