If “necessity is the mother of invention”, then I think it follows that “dissatisfaction is the mother of improvement”. Store bought oven mitts always leave me wishing for something better, so I decided to make my own.

Using the thermal single crochet stitch and a smaller hook, a great double-thick fabric is produced with no holes.

No guarantees can be made about the exact level of heat resistance, but the Original mitts crocheted in 2019 are STILL working perfect for all the various types of ordinary home cooking I do even with my cast iron.

I do have a bit of a photo tutorial on my site here: https://heritageheartcraft.weebly.com/my-blog/thermal-stitch-double-thick-single-crochet-increase-and-decrease
