HOOK:
US size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
SKILL LEVEL:
Adventurous Beginner: This pattern is for those crocheters who are ready to create a simple garment. Skills/concepts include the option of learning foundation single crochet, front post stitches, herringbone double crochet, and working in the round.
Notes from the Designer:
Glacadh (GLAH-kuh) is an Irish word for embrace. This quick-to-stitch shrug hugs your shoulders and wraps your arms in snuggly softness. Worked from side to side, you start by working a ribbed cuff in the round, increasing stitches as you progress up the sleeve. Then you switch to working flat in rows, adding some stripes as you change colors. Once you reach the center back, you do it all again in reverse! Use herringbone double crochet stitch to match the texture shown in the sample. If you prefer, you can substitute traditional double crochet stitches. This shrug is offered in three sizes (XS–M, L–2XL, 3XL–5XL) so that you can choose a wingspan that fits best.
- Click here to learn how to work the special stitches in this shrug.
- IMPORTANT: This pattern is best printed in color, as it uses different colors throughout to denote directions for different sizes and different versions.
- The original version used one skein each of discontinued colors: A) Fireside, B) Hibernation, C) Bough, D) Wintering, E) Ice House, and F) Enchanting. If you want to make the original version in similar colors, please use the Misty Hues Dewy DK Kit.
- In the updated version, we substituted Color A for Color D, Color B for Color E, and Color C for Color F throughout.
- Rounds are joined rather than worked in a spiral.
- Pattern is worked from cuff to cuff with no seaming required.
- To ensure that you have enough yarn to make the shrug, use Color C in updated version or Color F in original version to swatch.
- See table on page 7 for total yardage for all sizes.
