Glastonbury Shawl
This shawl is inspired by many Glastonbury Festivals I have enjoyed over the years… beautiful music, colourful people and chilly evenings where wrapping up in something warm is just bliss.
It is a traditional top down, triangle shawl, with a bit of frivolity and colour.
Skill Level: Beginner +
Yarn: C1 - 4 x 50g balls, Azzurra Classic (70% wool, 30% Acrylic, 225m in colour 070 Dark Grey)To make a substitution go for a light fingering, or 4ply weight and know that of the 200g/900m, I used about 166g/747m.
C2 - 1 x 100g ball, Rico Superba Poems (75% virgin wool, 75% polyamide, 420m in colour 002 – long repeat of colour changes). To make a substitution go for a 4ply yarn with long colour repeats and know that I used about 94g/395m.
Making Yarn Substitutions: Look for similar weights of yarn and yardage. Colour advice – a single colour yarn would look good against one very long gradient, or variegated yarn, but choose your contrasts wisely. You do not want to lose the focus of the difference between each yarn in the stripe.
Needles: 4mm/US 6, 100cm circs or long straights.
Accessories: 2 small stitch markers, a tapestry needle and small scissors.
Total Weight: 260g (approx. 1142m/1249 yards)
Finished Measurements: 75 inches/190cm wide at top edge and 39 inches/99cm deep at the centre ‘spine’, excluding tassel fringe.
