The Glawennow (meaning rain (n.pl) in the Cornish language) cowl is the first of my love letters to rain and I hope you will enjoy knitting it as much as I have enjoyed designing it. A donation of 50p will be made from every sale of this pattern to The Wildlife Trusts (www.wildlifetrusts.org) whose mission is “to bring about living landscapes, living seas, and a society where nature matters”.

Rain can be thunderous, gentle, nourishing, destructive, relentless, and refreshing. It provides sustenance to the earth and tops up our reservoirs and rivers, providing us with the water we need to survive. This cowl follows the story of rain from its beginnings as clouds above our heads, its journey to earth, and the drops that we feel as it finally lands.

The cowl features a gathered texture stitch, eyelets on reverse stockinette stitch, and popcorn bobbles. The results is a lightweight, textured cowl that is incredibly versatile throughout the seasons.

The pattern provides instructions for a single size, but also details of how this can easily be manipulated for both larger and smaller necks.

This is an ideal pattern for busting your stash of scraps as it uses less than a full skein of fingering weight yarn. The sample shown used just 60g! Ideas of suitable yarns and colours are provided in the pattern to help you make the most of the yarn and texture.

This pattern has been tech edited and a larger print version is included for those who prefer a larger text.
