Glitzy Shawl
This pattern was designed as a light weight dressy type of shawl to wear to wedding, boat cruises, theater events, or dinner. The yarns are very light weight and thin, so when we you knit them on the size 17 needle, it is very loose and holey. That is what makes it look lacy. Using a Ladder Type yarn with a Sparkly type yarn gives it a twinkle when it moves. Looks like you took the time to sew beads and sequins onto the fabric. I use Plymouth Eros and Feza Jewel to make mine. I carry both yarns in 9 different colors in my store.
Its a very simple pattern, you knit every row with an increase or two on each row. Then attach the fringe and its ready to wear. I have timed it out to take between 10 and 15 hours depending on the skill level and speed that you knit.
It was originally made with Plymouth Eros and Plymouth 24K. Now that the 24K is discontinued, I have had to research other companies and came up with Feza Yarns, They have Jazzy in place of Eros (Plymouth still carries Eros) and Jewel in place of 24K. I use between 2 balls of each yarns. You can use any yarn you like. I have made it with a 1/4” ribbon yarn as well as a yarn with texture in single and double strand. The thing that makes this shawl interesting is the thinness of the yarn which gives the open stitches that looks like a Yarn Over and there is none.
I start with a 9” size 17 needle because the shawl is started with 3 stitches. as more stitches are added I change to the 13” size 17 needles. Its easier on my hands and wrist to use the two sizes, but it’s not necessary.
The fringe is attached after the shawl is complete. I use a crochet hook to assist with pulling the fringe loop through the shawl, but it’s not necessary.
The most important thing to remember is to bind out VERY LOOSELY. The top edge needs to be wide to form the triangle. I found an easy way to bind off that is looser than the regular bind off. I made a YouTube Video to show how to do the regular bind off, loose and very loose bind off. I use the Loose Bind Off.
