Gloria's Carnival Socks
This pattern guides you through knitting toe up, two at a time socks. I would always rather work 2 at a time, toe up/Magic loop and this pattern is written with that in mind. I prefer it for several reasons, the primary one being that both socks will be the same, no matter whether you do some creative interpretation of the pattern or not. You can try the sock on as you go and make sure everything hits in the right spot. You can also use nearly every last scrap of yarn if you would like. So you always know when to bind off and call it done. It also sometimes involves ripping back two rather than one, but I am willing to face that hazard. The benefits outweigh the problems in my opinion but you choose what works for you.
You can choose to knit one or two at a time and on DPNs, 2 circs or 1 circular, magic loop. It is implicit that if both socks are done at once, you need to do each row or part, 2 times. The pattern will try to take that into account without being confusing. I will add hints for my favorite method but I will try to be clear so you can use DPNs if that’s what you prefer.
My friend Gloria fell in love with the yarn and then the socks knit from them. The Manos del Uruguay tended to knit tighter and fit me but was snug. Since she was 2 sizes smaller, I gave her the socks and knit another pair for myself to test the pattern. I love lace knitting and this is an easily memorized simple lace pattern that you can take with you and knit in between other things.
I hope you love knitting two at a time, toe up socks as much as I do. If anything is not crystal clear, please contact me and I will be happy to help.
