Inspired by historical patterns for men’s knee-length stockings from Austria, using an intricately patterned lens shape for the thumb gusset.

The glove begins with a picot hem. The thumb gusset is placed anatomically for a well-fitting glove. The palm design also widens, to give additional comfort and stretch. A prominent stitch pattern flows from the hand into each finger. The thumb design is elaborate, as a continuation of the detailed thumb gusset. The top of each finger is shaped slightly and then grafted closed with Kitchener stitch for a smooth, seamless, comfortable fingertip.

A smooth, tightly plied, light colored yarn shows the stitch work to best advantage. If working size large, there will be very little yarn left over. For any significant lengthening of cuff or fingers, a second skein is recommended. A second set of dpns, waste yarn, or a circular needle will be needed to hold waiting stitches.
