Gnomes, Elves, Santa & Tomte Needle or Hook Holder
I started making vegetable themed needle holders this summer when I kept losing my double pointed needles in the bottom of my bag. This week on Pinterest I saw a picture of some adorable little gnomes and elves made from some old wooden spools with little knitted hats and coats. They inspired me to design a set of Gnome and Elf needles cases.
Each case will take you about and hour (give or take) to knit up and felt and is a great STASH BUSTER!! It uses 20-24 yards of 100% wool yarn that can be felted. No Superwash- just yarn that felts. Perfect for those tiny balls of wool yarn you have left over that are way to small to make anything yet, we just can’t seem to throw them away! Am I right?
The pattern is for 4 different cases that will each hold one set of 5” double pointed needles with instructions on how to make longer cases for Crochet hooks or longer knitting needles. There are 4 different patterns included in this PDF.
A Fair Isle Gnome
A striped Elf
A Santa Holder
A Tomte Holder. All in one pattern.
I have photo instructions on how to attach the hat and make the beard. I have a color work Chart for the Fair Isle Gnome and written instructions for each of the different holders.
You will need:
A set of US size 8 double pointed needles
Different colors of wool yarn scraps- about 22 yards total. The yarn cannot be superwash treated.
A darning needle to weave in your ends
A little elbow grease to felt the case when it’s done.
You will need to know how to knit in the round and how to make a bobble.
These will be perfect stocking stuffers or a darling addition to the top of any gift for the knitters or crocheters in your life.
Have fun making them!
