This is a hat was designed in celebration of the Sochi 2014 Olympics. It’s a relaxed, slouchy beanie, but if you want a tighter fit you can adjust your gauge or size of yarn as desired.

The chart can either be worked as you knit, or added at the end with duplicate stitch, but keep in mind that if you use duplicate stitch, more of the main color yarn will be required. (It still will be less than 1 skein/100 g of worsted weight.) There is more size flexibility using the duplicate stitch method, since you can cast on fewer stitches and only add one or two repeats of the chart, for instance for a child’s sized hat.

I have not added any information about stranded knitting in the pattern; if you need a tutorial there are many available online. I recommend the Techknitter’s for the basics:
