Go With the Flow Hat
A simple slouchy hat made out of 1 skein of worsted weight yarn. I used Malabrigo Worsted Indigo (192 meter/210 yards)(100 gram). It is a joy to knit and an even greater joy to wear. Very soft and warm. The German Twisted Cast-on together with the brim of garter stitches makes this hat very stretchy and comfortable around the ears. What makes the knitting interesting are the garter stitch ridges in combination with an easy row of eyelets. It will look good on any type head.
Yarn: 144 m./157 yards (75 gram). I had about 25 gram left
Needles: 1 circular 60 cm./24 inch 4,5 mm. /US 7/UK 7/CAN 7 and 1 circular 60 cm./24 inch 5,0 mm./US 8/UK 6/CAN 6. If you are not magic looping while decreasing you will need 4 or 5 double pointed needles 5,0 mm./US 8/UK 6/CAN 6
Notions: 9 stitchmarkers, scissors and tapestry needle
Gauge:18 stitches and 20 garter rows = 10 cm/4 inch (with needles 4,5 mm./US 7/UK 7/CAN 7)
Size: Circumference approximately 58 - 60 cm./22.8 inch - 23.6 inch
You can make this hat from any other worsted weight yarn. As long as your gauge is about the same. YouTube is a great source for knitting techniques. If you search for the Twisted German Cast-on you will find a good tutorial by The Knit Wich. While decreasing for the crown you will reach a point that you have to switch to double pointed needles or use the Magic Loop method because of the limited number of stitches to work with.
Skills Needed
