Going Round in Squares Blanket
This is an overlay mosaic crochet design - a sort of optical illusion of overlapping squares. I’ve made a blanket but you could also make two smaller pieces and attach together for a cushion cover, there are basic instructions included for both options.
This is a fairly simple pattern suitable for someone who is intermediate at crochet. I enjoy working in the round from the center like we do in this pattern, as you don’t have lots of ends to weave in or cover like you would when working in rows. Each time we change colors in this piece, you drop the previous color behind and pick it up in the next round without cutting. If you are new to working from the center or to mosaic crochet patterns, I include some basic instructions and photos, and links for some of my favorite video tutorials.
The pattern includes two charts/ one set of written instructions for working from the center out. I also include a chart and written instructions to work the pattern flat, row by row, if you prefer that method.
I used Stylecraft Special DK with black color B and for color A - aspen, violet, lapis and empire, 520g / 1540m color A and 535g / 1580m color B - for a blanket measuring 47” / 120cm square.
I’d love to see what you make!
