The Golden Cherries Shawlette features a textural pattern pulished in Barbara Walker’s book “A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns” on page 141. This fancy textured pattern really caught my eye. It is aptly called “Medallion with Cherries” and showcases trios of cherries encased in raised medallions that look Middle Eastern in shape. I noticed that the pattern naturally forms a beautiful border on its edges, so I incorporated it into my shawlette as its border. My shawlette is crescent shaped, and knit from the bottom up. The versatile crescent shape is formed with a garter stitch short row body. The border stitch is complex enough that I would recommend that knitters be intermediate level and up. A beginner can work this stitch, but expect it to be a skill building adventure. The results are so pretty though that it would be worth the challenge! I knit this shawlette using only one skein of sport weight yarn in Madelinetosh’s Pashmina which is a wonderful merino wool/silk/and cashmere blend and has 360 yards to the skein. I chose the Winter Wheat shade. Because I found the written instructions for the border stitch to be easiest to understand, I did not include a chart with this pattern.
