I’ve never made a crocheted kerchief before, but now I’m wondering why not! This project is pretty much instant gratification. The smaller sizes can be completed in a weekend. Though the stitches are pretty basic, but the combination looks impressive when finished. This is a good way to use up half skeins that you may have laying around!

This project can be worn as a hair or neck kerchief, or shawl. The smaller sizes look especially sweet on cute little kids (or even around the neck of spoiled pups). The shawl sizes are an excellent way to use up small bits of yarn. Gradients, contrast joining/edging, or patchwork styles will work well for this design!

Sizes - Toddler (Child/Adult, Shawlette, Shawl) to measure 15” (20”, 45”, 60”)/38 (51, 114.5, 152.5) cm across, measured at widest part of the work.

Yarn - 50 (80, 450, 625) yards/45 (75, 415, 575 meters/13 (20, 113, 156) grams of sock/fingering weight yarn.

Sample shown in Greenwood Fiberworks Yakity Yak Fingering weight colorways Gold and Magenta.

Hook - Size US C/2.5 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge - One granny square should measure about 3.5”/9 cm square after wet blocking.

Notions - Tapestry needle, blocking wires (optional, but recommended), t-pins, and a blocking mat.

Techniques - Crocheting in the round using basic stitches in US terminology.
