Elegant and timeless crochet skirt worked up in a beautiful broomstick lace pattern.
Introduction
The story of this design started in the LYS when I first laid my eyes on this beautiful yellow yarn with a golden touch. I realized that before I even put it in my basket, I had already started picturing and dreaming of golden lace garments and decided it was time to take it with me before I started twirling around in the store, smiling all while staring at the imaginary chandelier, hanging from the ceiling. I named this design the Golden Lace Skirt because the sight of the golden color is what inspired it.
The pattern includes:
- Basic list of materials, yardage, gauge, stitches used
- Written step by step instructions (US terms) that are easy to read and follow
- 7 sizes XXS-XS-S-M-L-XL-XXL to fit hip measurement 32”-34”-36”-38”-40”-42”-44”
- Photo and video instructions for the tricky parts + how to make the broomstick lace motifs.
- Chart for the edging (chart reading skills not necessary for this pattern though)
Crochet skills
This pattern is an opportunity to stretch your crochet skills and try out a new method of broomstick lace.
I’ll introduce you to a technique that allows you to work this crochet skirt in one piece in the round. You won’t have to use 2 broomsticks to work these broomstick lace motifs in the round. In fact you won’t need any broomstick at all. Only your regular crochet hook + yarn. You’ll also be able to make the joining and transition between the broomstick lace rounds look as good as seamless, after I show you a little trick.
Another nice thing about working in the round like this, is you will only have to deal with very few yarn ends when your skirt is completed (unless you choose to work with multiple colors).
This pattern does not acquire any previous experience with broomstick lace. It is an advantage if you know your way around your hook and yarn (why I would describe this as an intermediate pattern), but that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to make as an advanced beginner, if you are determined. Also, I’ll be here if you have any questions.
Extra materials needed:
- Elastic thread (for the belt).
- Under skirt or fabric for lining (unless you are planning to use it as a beach cover)
Note: it is important that you use a non-splitting yarn for this pattern.
Stitches used (US terms):
Chain (CH)
Slip Stitch (SS)
Double Crochet (DC)
Foundation Double Crochet (FDC)
Broomstick Lace Motif (BLM)
Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC)
