Golden Sands Shawlette
I designed this shawl to celebrate Mooncat Fiber’s participation in the first ever New Mexico Fiber Crawl in May 2017. It is designed to be a quick knit with no purl stitches and a simple-to-memorize pattern.
The shawl has an asymmetric triangular shape, formed by casting on a few stitches at the narrow end then simultaneously increasing two stitches on one side while decreasing one stitch on the other side. The decrease side is given an interesting notched shape in the garter sections by omitting the decreases then binding off 5 stitches.
The pattern can easily be modified for a different number of colors, different yarn weights, or a larger size. Suggestions are given in the pattern.
Yarn: 100g fingering weight yarn, at least 400 yards. We used Auxanometer (100% bamboo fingering) from Theodora’s Pearls (beige version) and Palladio (merino-cashmere-silk fingering) for the turquoise version.
Needles: 32” circular in size 6 or size to obtain gauge.
Gauge: about 14 st = 4” aggressively blocked in garter stitch in the bamboo fingering yarn.
Needles: 32” circular size 6, or size to give gauge
Finished Size: about 12” deep and 84” wide using Auxanometer.
