Golden Twenties
This pattern was designed as a mystery sock (MOCK) for the January/February 2025 Stranded Colorwork challenge in the Sock Knitters Anonymous group on Ravelry.
The pattern is divided into a series of four clues to be released on January 1, 8, 15, and 22 of 2025. Because it is designed as a mystery, no photos of the socks are present in any of the clues and all project pages should use a spoiler shield as the first photo when knitting along with the KAL.
The inspiration for the pattern is the Golden Age of the Roaring 20s. This pattern gives me Gatsby feels!
Materials
Fingering weight sock yarn (designer used Hazel Knits Artisan Sock – 400 yds/120g)
- Main Color (MC) – 30 (35, 40) grams / 100 (120, 140) yards – solid color recommended. The MC is used as the main color in the stranded colorwork sections.
- Contrast Color (CC) – 65 (70, 75) grams / 220 (235, 250) yards – solid, tonal or lightly variegated with moderate to strong contrast to MC recommended. The CC will be used for the cuff, heel, and toe as well as the motif color in the stranded colorwork sections.
Note: The provided charts assume a light MC and darker CC.
US size 1 (2.25mm) circular needles, or size for desired gauge (see below)
US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) circular needles (optional for stranded colorwork sections)
- This pattern is written for magic loop but can be adapted to your preferred needle type – tips for other methods are given in the instructions.
Locking/removable stitch markers (4-5), cable needle & tapestry needle
Gauge
8 or 9 spi (stitches per inch) in 2-color stranded colorwork
- At 9 spi, the sock will be 6.9” (7.8”, 8.7”) in circumference.
- At 8 spi, the sock will be 7.75” (8.75”, 9.75”) in circumference.
This pattern is offered free, but if you would like to buy me a cup of coffee, I would appreciate it!
