Goldie's Locks
Getting ready for Halloween and want to take the baby as a Viking Queen, Dorothy in Oz or Princess Leia from Star Wars? Or maybe your munchkin is growing but so far her hair hasn’t kept up. Here’s an easy way to knit her some hair for a costume, cover her head against cold winds or just plain for fun.
I designed this pattern for some friends who love Star Wars. I wanted a Princess Leia wig with a center part, discernible hairline and strands. After I got done with Leia’s wig, I realized I could easily leave off the “cinnamon rolls” and add braids.
The hat takes about 3-4 hours of easy knitting. It’s adjustable. If the babe is very small, you might choose DK or sport weight yarn. If you’re concerned about softness, then double up baby yarn until you get your gauge.
**The Princess Leia variation: Knit the hat and a 4 stitch i-cord approximately 18 inches long. I cut 2 ovals out of felt, approximately 4 x 4.5 inches. I filled the i-cord with some cotton cording I had around the house. I twisted the i-cord as I sewed it by hand to the felt ovals. I put the hat on the baby’s head and carefully pinned the “buns” into place for permanent attachment.**
This is my first pattern. I appreciate all comments and advice you can offer, particularly regarding errata.
