This hat, knit on the widely available and inexpensive Ultimate Sweater Machine, is the second item in the Goldilocks challenge - a challenge to hand knitters to pick up a machine and knit gifts for the holidays for Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear.

Knit flat, the pattern uses keyplates 1, 2 and 3, and features a stretchy rib cast on, latched up cable detail, and a mattress stitch seam. There is shaping with decreases at the crown.

A scarf and mitten pattern are available to match, and the whole set can also be purchased in a book/DVD combo with other items for the USM.
