The swallow, a bird rich in symbolism across cultures, always represented romantic love to me. I fell in love with Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer’s poem “Dark Swallows Will Return,” in which passionate love is intertwined with the swallow’s life cycle. I still remember it by heart. This piece is inspired by the poem’s depiction of love — intense and impossible to replicate. Now, having found a love that is joyful and calm, I realize it promises less but fulfils more. - Claudia Q

Yarn B: 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) (3, 3, 4, 4) skeins of Silk Cloud by Madelinetosh (60% mohair, 40% silk, 330 yds / 301 m – 25 g), colourway Ivory.

Or approx. 457 (500, 581, 663, 732) (825, 933, 1026, 1126) yds / 418 (458, 532, 607, 670) (755, 854, 939, 1030) m of lace-weight silk mohair.

Yarn C: 1 skein of Mohair Silk by Les Garcons (72% mohair, 28% silk, 459 yds / 420 m – 50 g), colourway Twyla’s Sand.

1 strand of Yarn A is held together with 1 strand of Yarn B throughout. Yarn C is used single-stranded for neckband and sleeve cuffs.

Needles: US 4 / 3.5 mm 16” / 40 cm and 32” / 80 cm circular needles and a set of DPNs.

Notions: Stitch markers, waste yarn or stitch holders, tapestry needle.

Embroidery Notions: 7 pearls (4 mm), 8 beads (3 mm) & 4 crystals (4 mm). Cotton embroidery thread in light brown for branch and beaks of birds, 2 shades of green for leaves. Metallic embroidery thread in blue for bird wings and white for bird body.

GAUGE
25 sts x 34 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in St St in the rnd with one strand of Yarn A and B held together, after blocking.
