Goodwill: kindly feelings of approval and support, of benevolent concern and interest.

Goodwill began during the devastating 2019-2020 Australian bushfires, while waiting for my husband, a volunteer firefighter, to return home safely. It felt like half my country was on fire. If something good could come of this tragedy, it was the amazing outpouring of goodwill, support, donations, and aid. Not just from our emergency services people, paid and volunteer, but the wider Australian public, and the world community. It has been a wonderful, and heart-warming thing to witness.

Sizing - Goodwill is written in 5 sizes,from child to large adult. XS (S, M, L, XL) to fit a 18 (20, 23, 26, 29)cm or 7 (8, 9, 10, 11)” foot circumference, measured around the ball of the foot. The fit is similar to a plain sock of 48 (56, 64, 72, 80) sts.

The pattern is suitable for experienced beginner sock knitters.

Requirements - Goodwill requires at least 3 colours. The socks need 200-450m/50-125g depending on the size, and desired leg and foot lengths. For scrap yarn socks, each colour takes roughly 30m/10g when used once on each sock. The cuffs, heels and toes use about 80-200m/ 20-50g, depending on sock size.

For the first 6 months from release, $3US from each copy of Goodwill sold was donated to the Barnawartha County Fire Association, my local volunteer fire brigade. The money will help them to stay well equipped, and well trained, to deal with future emergencies. Thank you, $33US was raised, and it was rounded up to $45AU for donation.
