Worked from the bottom up all in one piece this vest has simple shaping to compliment the ornate Adventure Cables pattern. A truly cabled cable this pattern has one stitch crossing over three stitch cables that twist around sections of stockinette, edging the front of this long vest. The back is worked in a purl ridge texture pattern to add interest and highlight the beautiful color variation of the hand dyed yarn.

This stitch pattern was hands down the most difficult stitch pattern to design in the whole book and I redid it at least 8 times. Getting the perfect balance between a cabled adventure cable crossing, a stitch pattern that looked different than just a regular cable pattern and not adding too many elements into it all was difficult, although I am thrilled with the final product. It reminds me of a long drive we took when I was young; we were travelling across the prairie in the middle of the long drawn out twilight that is a Canadian summer. The moon was visible in the sky on one side of the car while the sun was setting on the other and the range of blue in the sky and unending wheat fields all around was stunning.

Pattern Notes
This vest is worked flat, knit back and forth all in one piece. Decreases are worked on the lower body to create an a-line shape while the upper body is worked straight for a casual look. Since the upper fronts are worked without decreases to the neck the shoulder seam for this garment sits behind the neck. The armholes for the vest are worked with ribbing but sleeves could be added easily. When designing this pattern it became clear that crossing the cabled stitches in front of the knit stitches required an adventure cable, but crossing the knit stitches in front of the cabled stitches looked the same as crossing the knit stitches over knit stitches. For this reason there are only 4 Adventure Cables in this pattern. It is easiest to work these cables without a cable needle, but instructions have been provided for both methods. When working with the hand dyed yarn it is best practice to work with 2 skeins at the same time and alternate skeins every 2 rows.
