GOOSELING
Gooseling is a simple but beautiful lace cowl, knit as a rectangle that you sew up as an infinity cowl. The lace is pretty straight-forward, so if you are new to lace it’s a great beginners project.
A gooseling, or a gosling, is a young baby goose and the lace of this cowl resembles the traditional Scandinavian goose eye weaving pattern. Goose eye is a diamond twill pattern with repeating rhombi and where the smallest middle one resembles a birds eye. Using a fairly basic weaving pattern, it creates a striking fabric that has been common in Scandinavian textiles since the Vikings.
The yarn used in the sample shawl is a lovely French merino yarn that is both soft and fluffy but still has some character to it. Merino d’Arles can be purchased from Organic Knitters.
