Gothic Garden Socks

These socks are a collaboration with Fangirl Fibers.

These super cute and spooky socks get started at the cuff. There is just a hint of a cable in the ribbing. So subtle we aren’t even sure it’s there, like a hint of a shadow in a doorway, or wisp of a ghost in the corner of our eye.

As we continue on our journey to our Gothic Garden we work through a low, spooky mist of helical knitting. What is hiding in the mist?

We’ve reached our Gothic Garden! Stranded colourwork reveals sweet little ghosts floating above a haunted rose garden.

The colours Fangirl Fibers created are just perfect for this gothic garden. An inky and mysterious purple (Gothic Garden) and a ghostly varigeated grey, green and smoke (Haunted Petals).

These socks use a fun collection of easy techniques, and as always, I’ve included links to tutorials in the pattern. I’ve offered the colourwork charts in both original and inverse colours for ease of reading. And knitter’s choice for heel construction: A German short row heel, which is included, or the Flish Lips Kiss Heel which is a separate purchase here on ravelry.

Skills Required
Twisted German cast on, working in the round, knit, purl, twisted stitches, helical knitting, German short rows or Fish Lips Kiss Heel, stranded colourwork knitting, decreasing, Kitchener stitch.

Materials

Sample Yarn Used:
2 x 100g/400yds, Fangirl Fibers 80/20 Merino Nylon, fingering weight, in colours Haunted Petals (C1) and Gothic Garden (C2).

Yardage: 300 (350, 410) yds/274 (320, 375) m TOTAL fingering weight yarn. Yardage is an estimate and is impacted by yarn used, knitter gauge, length of sock foot/leg knitted.

Suggested Needles:
2.5 mm/US 1.5, 80 cm/32” length for magic loop OR size(s) needed to obtain gauge. Many knitters prefer to use needles 1-2 sizes larger for the stranded colourwork to maintain gauge.
