Note: (11.21.08) I’ve been wearing this a while now, and the bottom scallop/curves tend to curl up. Next time I make this I will knit plain on the current chart’s rows 128 and 130, add a row of yo/k2tog eyelets on the next row, purl back, then do a picot bind off. Wear and learn. Or, do as ChristaV did and add a few rows of garter stitch between the points. Why didn’t I think of that, duh!
CHART ONLY PATTERN No instructions for how to knit from charts included. Best book on subject: Knitting Lace Triangles by Evelyn A. Clark.
The Gothic Revival Shawl would be a great addition to anyone’s Halloween wardrobe: it’s spiky, spooky, and dark. Inspired by a doorknob. (Seriously!) Knitting through the back loops as indicated in the chart really makes a big difference in the crispness of this stitch pattern, which is based on Pendant Lace from Barbara Walker #2. Silver Thaw has been discontinued (although there’s still some out there), but Kureyon or Silk Garden would work with this if you want to go with the same weight and weird color variations. This type of shawl pattern really works with any type of yarn! And its symmetry is also versatile: I plan to make a half-hex (see Victorian Lace Today) out of this in laceweight. That will take more than 4 days to complete, however!

Print with a horizontal page set up.

NOTE: The .pdf says this is 90” x 40”, which it was on the blocking bed, but since drying it’s bounced back to 72” x 36”. (Must be the nylon in the Silver Thaw)
