This striking looking hat is a lot simpler than it appears at first glance.

I think it is entirely suitable for a novice knitter. My blind, 98 year old test knitter managed it without any problem.

It is basically a tuck stitch worked in a field of st-st. Very little counting and a lovely rhythmic, relaxing knit.
