This necklace can be made without the bead if desired. Also makes a great bridal necklace when made in white.

Although similar to my Petals and Berries necklace:

Gothic Windows is slightly easier/quicker, does not require a cabone ring, was designed to make adding a bead easy and looks GREAT in dark colors.

This pattern is a comprehensive photo tutorial, 11 pages, 75 photos, 12MB. There is not a text-only version of this pattern. You will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader to view or print the file. English language and US crochet terms only.

Info on using different size beads and threads is included on the second page. It’s a very versatile pattern, I have made them as small as 1.25” across and as large as 2.5” across. Following the pattern without substitutions gives a focal point averaging 1.75” across.

Materials:
DMC Cebelia crochet thread (or other tightly wound thread) sizes 10 and 30.

1.75mm hook & 1.25mm hook.

Lightweight Clasp

Fabric Glue

Optional:
6mm - 7mm round bead

A smaller hook, I use 0.60mm, or a small tapestry needle (rounded end). This is just to loosen stitches so exact size isn’t critical.

Gauge:
Not essential.

You need the following skills:

  • chain
  • slip stitch
  • single crochet
  • double crochet
  • triple crochet
  • working front loop only
  • working back loop only
  • controlling tension
  • able to work with thread
  • accuracy & attention to detail

This pattern is appropriate for an intermediate to advanced crocheter. More important than a specific experience level is patience and the ability to follow instructions.

I often make these necklaces in a single color and dye them. Step-by-step instructions for dyeing are NOT included in the patterns. A resource where you can purchase supplies and get information on the process is included. Or you can get a similar effect simply by changing colors, when to make that change is mentioned on the second page of the pattern.

Instructions for a 2 thread cord is included. It’s more polished than a regular crochet chain but much easier than i-cord. There is also instructions for attaching a toggle clasp.
