Grab Your Scraps Shawl
I love wearing giant shawls and totally wrap myself up in them. My husband keeps asking me “ Another one???” when I have a new design on my needles. Well, sure darling!! A girl can never have too many.
Another reason for designing new shawls is that I absolutely can’t resist variegated yarns. I usually combine them with uni/solid colored ones.
Leftovers:
This time I used a grey variegated yarn, fingering weight, Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Crazy (color 2428, Schlammpackung, which is the German name the English name might be different) and lots of Zauberball Scraps that I had leftover. This shawl is a great scraps burner!
You can also choose one other color of Zauberball Crazy for the second color.
So let me introduce to you: Grab Your Scraps Shawl
A generously sized, asymmetric triangular shawl.
Not very hard to knit; only stockinette stitches and “string of pearls” stitches are used. I named this stitch the “string of pearls” stitch because I couldn’t find another, already existing name. It has I-cord edging all around to give it a finished look.
The fun bit comes from the combination of yarns used and alternating stockinette- and String of Pearls stitches.
Fringe:
The added fringe is a must! At least that’s my opinion. I think they give this shawl a classy boho finish, especially when you randomly place the fringes in different colors around two sides of the shawl.
Finished size:
unblocked: ca. 185 cm wide and 90 cm high
blocked: ca 210 cm wide and 100 cm high
Gauge: not relevant
Yarn: the fun part is: you can use any two yarns you like as long as the two are of the same thickness. (see “note” above). You don’t have to use variegated yarn or use only two colors. Use your creativity to make this shawl your own.
Yarn used for my Grab your Scraps Shawl
3 skeins (3 x 100 gram) of Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Crazy (1260 meter)
And 150 grams of scraps/leftover yarn ( approx. 630 meter) for the string of pearls stitches and the fringes. If you leave out the fringes, but I strongly advice you not to, 100 grams will be enough.
1 circular needle 3 mm (US 2,5, UK 11), at least 80 cm long but the longer the better.
A crochet hook to attach the tassels to the shawl.
