At this time of the year we are soon going to take off all the winter-clothing - looking forward to that:) But it is also the time of the year for crucial winds and temperature changes and spring colds are not fun to deal with…. I made up a cowl to wrap into for these last weeks of winter.
And I wanted to create a cowl-pattern that any knitter can make! This is a perfect knit for a fairly new beginner that wants a great result, as well as an advanced knitter to have some fast fun between elaborate knits.

Depending on your choice of colors, length, edges or no edges, make it into your own creation:)

Construction
Worked flat and side-to-side in one piece, starting from a provisional (or traditional) cast on. Beginning and end of cowl are joined either by grafting or by seaming. The crochet edges are worked at the end.

Size
The sample is 20cm/8” wide and 94cm/37” long. This is the perfect size for being worn in one layer or wrapped twice around the neck. You can work the cowl to any length or width.

Materials
Yarn: You can use any DK weight yarn to work the cowl. To make it as in the sample you need 200m/216yards each of MC (brown) and CC (multicolored). You will need an additional of 50gr/55yards of MC to work the crochet edges.
Unfortunately, the lovely Grace Wool that I used for my cowl had been too long in my stash, it is now discontinued….. Luckily there are LOTS of beautiful yarns to choose from!
Needles: choose needle size to obtain gauge. I used size 4.5mm/US7 to work mine. You will need a crochet hook 3.5 - 4mm.

Gauge
20 sts in garter = 10cm/4”

Knitting skills
Provisional cast-on and grafting (this is masterclass, for a seamless result. You can use a traditional cast-on and bind-off and make a seam at WS).
K and p sts (there is one p st on every WS row), make simple increases by m1l and m1r, decreases by sl2(as if to k2tog)k1psso.
The pattern repeat is easily memorized!
