Named for Grace Cossington Smith’s 1915 portrait of “The Sock Knitter”, the Grace Socks are a beautiful pair of every-day socks that would be the perfect project for beginner sock knitters or for more experienced sock knitters to knit up quickly as a gift. The simple diagonal eyelet design is perfect for showing off a beautiful sock yarn like that single hand-dyed skein you’ve got lying around, or a gradient yarn like the Multicoloured Sock Yarn from Bendigo Woollen Mills used in the sample.

The Grace socks are a pair of stockinette socks with a straightforward diagonal eyelet pattern across the instep and around the leg. Knitted seamlessly on circular needles or DPNs from the cuff down, these easy socks introduce the basics of traditional sock construction including a heel flap and gusset as well as a grafted toe. Starting with a 2x2 rib at the cuff, the diagonal eyelet pattern is then worked around the leg, before knitting a sturdy slip stitch heel flap. A heel turn is worked in short rows before stitches are picked up at the sides of the heel flap to work gusset decreases. The diagonal eyelet pattern continues across the instep, with a plain stockinette stitch for the bottom of the sock. A wedge stockinette toe is worked with decreases on each side before the tip of the toe is grafted together to create a seamless finish.

Size 1 for foot circumference of 6-8 inches
Size 2 for foot circumference of 8-10 inches
Foot length and leg length are adjustable to preference.
