The Grade hat is the full-fledged beanie version of the Grade design! The unusually-shaped stripes tilt this beanie back for a nice fit, though they don’t alter the basic traditional toque silhouette.

This .PDF features two sizes; the smaller fits average adults (21”-23” head circumference), while the larger version should fit larger-headed people (23”+) or those who prefer to wear their hats looser, without any negative ease at all. There are lots of customizing options in this pattern, from crown shaping to length.

The samples shown are the basic beanie (Blue-Brown Marl) with square patchwork crown style, and a very long one (Tourmaline stripes—sort of grey and black) with the pinwheel crown style, both knit from the smaller size.

Gauge is 22 sts and 48 rows in garter stitch, or 17 sts and 28 rows in brioche rib.

Gauge is important to the fit of a hat. Please be sure to check your gauge, and use the needles you need to work at gauge.

160-260 yards of heavy fingering-weight or light sport yarn, such as Patons Kroy Socks (potentially more for larger version)
