Gradiently Inclined Cowl
Designed to take advantage of a gradient color set of mini skeins, the Gradiently Inclined Cowl lets the yarn do the heavy lifting.
Using a simple 1-row stitch pattern, the body is knit flat. Next, the edges are joined into a circle, either seamlessly via Kitchener Stitch grafting or with a decorative seam via the 3-Needle Bind Off worked in a contrasting color. Finally, stitches are picked up along one edge and worked in the round, using another simple stitch pattern.
If you graft and pick up your stitches carefully, this cowl is completely reversible.
Gentle shaping is achieved by using a smaller needle for the top edging. Lower edge circumference is 32”/29 cm, upper edge circumference is 25.5”/65 cm, height is 11.5”/29 cm.
Techniques Used:
• Provisional Cast-On
• Kitchener stitch grafting or 3-Needle Bind-Off
• Knitting in the round
• Picking up stitches along an edge
The sample was made with equal amounts of six colors. You may wish to use more or fewer colors. Each mini skein in this set was approximately 105 yds/96 m.
